Six Weeks of Seeing God at Work
By Matthew Cole

It was exciting for me to spend my summer in Alaska seeing and participating in what the Lord is doing in the villages of Alaska’s vast interior.

The first three weeks, we put on a VBS program for the kids. It was easy to see the tremendous impact that InterAct Missionaries Bruce and Flo Walters have in the three villages they were itinerating to.

We had a good turnout at each village. It was great to see the children warm up to us the first day, to see their characters revealed throughout the rest of the week. It was just a partial glimpse of their lives but long enough that they became firmly rooted in our hearts. There is nothing as lovely as a child receiving in faith the gift of life. I praise the Lord for allowing me to participate in conveying His Word to these children.

I saw a real need for people to disciple the children who had received Christ, since the church as a body is very small or absent in the villages and there aren’t enough missionaries in the bush to minister in each village.

Our last stop was in Huslia with InterAct’s Don and Brenda Ernst. It was a blessing to see how they have become part of the Athabascan community and the fruit of their efforts in building relationships with the people. When we would walk somewhere in town with Brenda, it was nearly inevitable that a teenage girl would run up to her and give her a big hug and talk with her.

I rejoice in Isaiah 55:11 that God’s Word did go forth during this time. “So is my Word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
